If you are interested in buying freezer beef, check out the FAQs below for more information or give us a call to talk through the details.

  • What type of cattle do you sell?
Our herd consists of crossbred cattle, with predominantly Angus, Devon, and Charolais genetics. All the animals we sell are born and raised on our farm.
  • What is the difference between grass-fed and grain-fed?
An animal's diet will affect its growth rate and the taste and quality of its meat. An animal that has a grass and grass-hay only diet is "grass fed," and its meat is usually quite lean. Animals that eat grain tend to have more marbled, tender meat. Our cattle have a diet that consists of predominantly grass and hay; they spend most of the year grazing in the pastures, and they get hay in the winter, when the grass dies back. They also get a small ration of grain to increase marbeling, which leads to flavorful, juicy beef.
  • What do I get when I buy freezer beef?
Freezer beef is sold by the quarter, half, or whole. If you buy a quarter of beef, you get approximately 130 pounds of beef for your freezer, cut and wrapped to your specifications. This will include a mix of roasts, steaks, and hamburger. Typically, the breakdown is 50% hamburger, 30% roasts, and 20% steaks. We will work with you to select cuts and packaging options.
  • How is beef sold and priced?
We sell live steers and heifers to farmers, 4-H students, and others. Prices vary and are connected to market value. Please call for pricing and to arrange a time to visit and select your animals. Freezer beef is sold by the quarter, half, or whole. We sell by "hanging weight," which is the weight of the carcass before the bones are removed. Hanging weight is about 60-65% of an animal's "live" weight. Prices will vary depending on market value. The price will includes processing, packaging, and local delivery. Please call for exact pricing and the schedule of availability.
  • Do you give your animals growth hormones or antibiotics?
Our cattle do not receive growth hormones. We use antibiotics only when it is necessary for the health of a sick animal. We believe in keeping the diet and treatment of our cattle as natural as possible, but in the rare situation when an animal is sick, we also want it to be treated so it can recover. If an animal requires antibiotics, we exceed the recommended wait-time for product withdraw before selling the animal. We can explain each animal's medical history upon request.
